A month behind...but, ahead...

Looking at my training schedule from the past few years, I have figured that I am about a month behind in the work and training hours I need to be putting in to peak around St. Croix. I'm not too worried because I feel like I put down some solid late season efforts in 2008 including the NYC Marathon.

The loss of my job, the birth of Weck and general life confusion has seen my training hours dwindle. On the flip side, I feel like I've been a bit more consistent about getting an hour on the rollers and getting in some strength and core conditioning in the last few months. I'm hoping that this translates into stronger base mile and a stronger physical foundation to support a bit more intensity in the coming months.

Without scientific evidence and just my own testing, I figure my FTP has improved by 20 watts from this time last year, bonus. This time last year I was in Tucson for a training camp with my coach, this year, I'm freezing my butt off in NYC with no coach and winging the training.

My plan going forward is to continue to work on building the base with a focus on the bike and trow in a few random races to up the intensity and shake up the system with speed. Nothing like racing our way into top form. My first "race" is this weekend; a indoor triathlon - 10 minutes swimming laps, 30 minutes on a spin bike and 20 minutes on the treadmill.

It's go time!

Do you train/run with your dog?

I don't train/run with him yet; he is only 9mos. Once he is a year to 14mos he will be my full-time training partner.
