2009 New York Ciy Triathlon Race Report - Another DNF

The lead up to this race had been really difficult for me to get mentally fired up. I do feel like my fitness is good, just race specific training has me wondering what my body will do.

Luckily, I live less than half a mile from he transition area so I was able to spend a good amount of time a home before heading down to the river. Good thing because a hue rain storm passed over the city about 4:30 am.

The weather delayed the start of the race 20 minutes so I had some time at the start area to catch up with friends and competitors. The Elite Men's Wave was third to go.

We lined up on the dock for our dive start and I starred at the murky water of the Hudson wonder what I was doing there and feeling no nerves, not a good thing.

The horn sounded and off we went. Some good hits to the face and climbing around for the first few hindered meters uni I fell into a good rhythm. I had a hard time keeping the daft of the swimmer in front of me so I just focused on my stroke and getting out of the nasty water.

I exited the water with no idea of where I stood in the wave, maybe mid-pack. Then the long asphalt run to transition.

I jumped on the bike and blazed out of transition. I felt good on the bike and clicked off the first few miles without issue. My legs were loosening up and I was just finding the right power and cadence when my tire blew. A nice gash through the tire, unfixable...Day over.

I am of the belief that if you are not in the game mentally then you are more likely to suffer other odd problems due to lack of focus and neglecting the small things.

Time for some rest and time away from the sport...time for some golf...I hope to come back mentally ready to go and have some good fall results.
