Great Cycling and Road Racing Venues Need Support To Keep Growing and Improving.

May 17, 2014

Dear Cyclists:

2014 is the third year for the very successful Berkshire Cycling Classic. 2014 will also be the first year in which we will hold USA Cycling races alongside the Cyclosportif (aka Gran Fondo). We are really pleased to be expanding an exciting event with these additions.

Over the last two years the Berkshire Cycling Classic has gained great popularity for its beautiful and challenging 80-mile circuit that starts and finishes right in downtown Lenox, MA. With the broad acceptance for the Cyclosportif, many asked to race on this exceptional course and we are proud to offer six new categories this year: Cat 5 under35, Cat 5 35+, Cat 4, Masters 40+, Masters 50+ and Women Open (Pro-4). In 2015 we expect to expand the number of categories and establish the Berkshire Cycling Classic as a cornerstone of great New England road racing. Equally important, Lenox and the other participating towns are committed to supporting a permanent event to highlight the cycling-friendly beauty of the Berkshires.

The race course is almost technically perfect with four good climbs, with a hard 1.5-mile section seven miles from the finish. That climb may offer the perfect springboard to victory for a strong rider out of the lead pack. Balancing out the climbs are long valley floors where riders have plenty of opportunity to organize a strong chase if there's a lead pack. And all this in the beautiful western hills of Massachusetts.

The Berkshire Cycling Classic has been designed by Sparta Cycling as a great chance for amateur riders to experience European-style racing at its best. Similar in style to UCI races like the Housatonic Valley Classic, the Univest Grand Prix and the Bucks County Classic, Sparta Cycling has brought a wealth of European racing experience to shape the Berkshire event. It's the perfect way to experience European racing at a small percentage of the cost!

Great cycling and road racing venues need your support to keep growing and improving. So please register early, bring your friends and teammates and show your support for great road racing in New England. And if you're not racing, bring your club members to enjoy an incredible Cyclosportif in the Berkshires. Be part of an awesome cycling festival and help create an event that will be the cornerstone of New England cycling.

Thank you

John Eustice
