Kuat NV Rack - Review

PRODUCT: KUAT NV Bike Rack
MSRP: $549.00

DESCRIPTION:
"Is it wrong to intentionally make others envious? Probably.
Yet there’s something undeniably rewarding in the green faces of those you cruise past with your new NV. With a front and rear ratchet system, hitch lock, integrated cable lock, and a built-in repair stand for pre-ride prep or post-ride cleanup, it is a fully loaded stunner. And you’ll look smooth loading and unloading with its easy to use hand-tight cam system and simple storage with lever action pivot for rapid folding, tilting, and hiding."

PACKAGING

The rack was packed solidly with all the small parts in a burlap bag. A nice touch was to include a bottle opener key ring.

INSTALLATION
Putting the rack together takes a little time and focus on the instructions. My rack went together with little issue, but I have heard from others that some muscle is needed to align bolt holes and getting everything to tighten and line up properly.

I had to go to extra lengths to finish the installation on our 2011 Chevrolet Volt. I had an ecohitch by Torklift installed with a hole cut in the rear bumper and a lift licence plate to access the hitch mount hole.

FEATURES
The multitude of features on this product is one of the reasons I made the purchase. I wanted a rack that held at least two bikes by the wheels and was "no touch" on the frame. I wanted an easy locking system and something that was easy to take on and off a car. The added built-in repair stand is a bonus and a nice feature to tune and work on a bike at a race/event site.

PERFORMANCE

This rack holds bikes securely and has a great built-in locking system. Due to the installation on the Chevrolet Volt the bikes ride a bit high and exposed to the wind.
The fold-back feature make it easy to access the rear hatch without taking bikes off and the fold-up feature is great to get the rack up and out of the way when no bikes are on the rack.

OVERALL

This is a great rack. The only drawbacks I have is that is a little on the heavy side and the plastic rear wheel tie-downs are too short to accommodate deeper rims.
